GET OUT OF PARIS.
In a lively and diverse district of Bordeaux, this new hotel concept celebrates all forms of artistic expression.
An administrative and business district close to the center of Bordeaux, Mériadeck is distinguished by its modernist aesthetic inherited from the 1960s and 1970s, whose architecture, typical of the collective housing of the era, has its detractors as well as its admirers today. Today, it is home to a number of exciting new venues, such as the Marty, bought by the Vicartem/Extendam duo and managed by Younight Hospitality.
This former 2-star establishment has been transformed into a 61-room hybrid lifestyle address, with a hushed atmosphere and a vibrant heart around a monumental 13-meter-long bar! A hotel-gallery or a hotel-gallery whose name combines the “M” of Mériadeck with an assertive “arty” identity.
An urban, creative living space, like an incubator, the Marty aims to offer travelers unprecedented experiences immersed in local culture, showcasing artists from all horizons: DJs, musicians, graffiti artists, sculptors… Since opening in April, Nell Caritey-Hergué, gallerist and founder of L’Artillerie, a Rennes-based (like the owners) artist promotion and art space development agency, has been bringing together the eclectic works of eight predominantly north-western signatures, while awaiting local up-and-comers: abstract paintings by Charlotte Lemaire-Thimel and Tom Nelson, photos by Morgane Richard, street artist stencils by Ozana, stainless steel and steel sculptures by Gil. S., Camille Tan’s wood, stone and metal mobiles, Nidpie’s baroque shell ornaments, Yann Sciberras’ urban “actualist” paintings.
You can stroll through the hotel like in a gallery: from 90 to 22,000 euros, all the works are for sale, listed in a small catalog. “I love upcycling, as do many of my artists. Giving new life to objects and materials is a form of CSR commitment, which is necessary today”, explains the gallery owner. On the evening of the inauguration, artist Yann Sciberras customized small objects purchased from Emmaüs in his zany, offbeat style, selling them at the event for the benefit of the Emmaüs Foundation.
